World Publishing Company has announced the forthcoming publication of Nuzhat Classic Recipes, Volume One: The Stories Behind the Recipes, a cookbook by author and lifelong home cook Nuzhat Ahmed featuring 29 classic South Asian dishes. The book is the first instalment in a planned three-volume collection, with Volumes Two and Three to follow, according to the publisher.

The collection is organised into seven sections — Lamb & Beef, Chicken, Vegetables, Fish & Seafood, Rice, Breads, and Desserts — and brings together everyday favourites such as Aloo Gosht, Qeema Matar, and Palak Aloo, alongside celebratory dishes including Chicken Chargha, Badami Qorma, Chicken Biryani, and Zarda rice. Each recipe includes a complete ingredient list, step-by-step instructions, serving suggestions, and practical cooking tips, with the book designed for home cooks seeking dependable recipes that combine traditional flavours with accessible techniques.

What distinguishes the collection is its emphasis on the stories behind the dishes. Readers encounter memories of a grandmother preparing Badami Qorma in the style of royal kitchens, a father's kitchen mishap that became a treasured family story, a London wedding where Rogan Josh was mistaken for spoiled qorma, and a mother who used homemade Firni to encourage her children to complete their chores.

"Some recipes are more than food — they are vessels for memory, carrying the voices, gestures and love of the people who made them," Nuzhat writes. "Sometimes a recipe is not just about the ingredients — it is about the person who taught you what home cooking tastes like."

The book also features home-friendly versions of Chicken Tikka Masala, White Chicken Kadhai, Reshmi Kebab, Carrot Halva, Mango Kulfi, Gulab Jamun, and Classic Summer Pudding. Practical shortcuts help make these dishes approachable for cooks with busy schedules.

The announcement matters beyond the niche of cookbook publishing because it arrives at a moment when many families are trying to preserve culinary heritage that otherwise survives only in memory and oral instruction. By committing 29 dishes to print with full ingredient lists and step-by-step instructions, the volume offers a durable record of traditional South Asian home cooking, while the accompanying family stories frame the recipes as personal history rather than mere instructions. The publisher positions Volume One for readers who appreciate traditional recipes and for families who want to preserve their culinary memories — a dual audience that reflects the growing appetite for food writing that blends practical guidance with memoir.

Ahmed's background informs the project. She completed her early education in Karachi, trained as a teacher in London, and has lived in England for nearly 30 years while maintaining a strong connection to the flavours and culinary memories that shaped her. Her cooking was recognised in 2012 when she won a competition featured on MTV and was profiled in the Newham Recorder. Having published her first cookbook in 2009, she now begins a new chapter with Nuzhat Classic Recipes, a planned three-volume collection inspired by family memories and her love of bringing people together through food. For Nuzhat, home cooking should be approachable, satisfying, and full of flavour — and every meal is an opportunity to share joy.
