Bestselling author and award-winning filmmaker Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein has announced a special screening of her new film, I Had An Affair With My Husband, to be held Wednesday, July 1 at 6 pm at Basie Center Cinemas Theatre in Red Bank, New Jersey. The screening is free and open to the public.
The film tells the story of a married couple navigating a unique and humorous dynamic: the wife falls in love with a new voice her husband develops, leading to an improved intimate life but also triggering intense jealousy in the husband toward his own voice. The couple eventually seeks help from a therapist to address the disconnect between the husband's persona and this new identity. Ultimately, they reach an honest understanding, recognizing that while the voice is a fantasy they can occasionally enjoy—perhaps expanding upon with other personas—their real love for one another remains the foundation of their relationship.
Dr. Holstein, a positive psychologist, explained the film's origins in a statement: 'Both myself and my husband, Dr. Russell Holstein, are very excited about the film. The film developed in our minds as we found ourselves reacting to some things that happened to ourselves. Without giving the plot away, let me just say that the story that developed was one that we lived through. We were the patients in real life that had to work through what we felt. As psychologists, we ended up believing that there are many facets to romance that are difficult but also can be fun and amazing. And this is so important, as most people in a relationship really hope it can work.'
The film is described as a lighthearted romp that uses an unusual scenario to explore real themes of honesty and fantasy within a marriage. Dr. Holstein noted, 'This film makes clear how some amount of confusion can also lead to fun and challenges that can be handled. In fact, get ready to laugh your way through this film. It is funny and reveals how some of life's romantic difficulties can be handled and better understood.'
The film will be released in late June 2026. Alongside the film, Dr. Holstein's book Women's Freedom, Unfinished Love Stories, 2nd Edition will be available as a free ebook on June 28 and 29, 2026, at her Amazon author page. The book explores the struggles and desires of young women in the 1960s, focusing on sexuality, identity, and self-discovery through the journeys of three college students.
Dr. Holstein is known for wrapping positive psychology concepts in engaging media, including six bestselling books, four self-esteem workbooks for girls, award-winning films, and the Selfie Showcase, a project that allows young people ages 13 to 18 to voice their opinions on important subjects through selfie videos. The announcement highlights Dr. Holstein's continued work in making psychological insights accessible through entertainment, offering audiences both laughter and reflection on the complexities of relationships.
