Bestselling author and keynote speaker Rocky Romanella has announced a four-part leadership series titled "The Mentor: Believing In People Before They Believe In Themselves." The series, delivered through his newsletter, examines an often-overlooked aspect of mentoring: recognizing potential that others cannot yet see.
According to Romanella, when a leader communicates genuine confidence in someone, it provides the encouragement needed to take risks, develop skills, and persist through setbacks. This builds confidence, develops ownership, and strengthens commitment, ultimately revealing hidden potential.
The series is divided into four parts: Part 1 - The Heart Of Belief; Part 2 - Coach Wooden And The Heart Of Mentoring; Part 3 - Belief In Action; and Part 4 - Legacy, Identity And The One Word That Defines You. In Part 1, Romanella discusses his father and the spark that shaped a lifetime of leadership. Part 2 takes readers into Coach John Wooden's living room to learn that mentoring is about shaping people, not performance. Part 3 explores the UPS promotion-from-within culture, where belief becomes a responsibility, and how the circle of mentoring belief came full circle in the MBE/The UPS Store Franchise Network. Part 4 examines coachability as the most underrated leadership superpower and the one word that defines one's leadership legacy.
In the opening preview, Romanella stated, "Every leader can remember the moment someone believed in them before they believed in themselves. The coach. The teacher. The manager. The mentor. The person who looked you in the eye and said, 'You can do this,' at the exact moment you weren't sure you could. That moment doesn't just stay with you, it shapes you. It becomes the quiet force that pushes you forward when doubt tries to pull you back."
He added, "And now, in an AI driven world where uncertainty is rising and confidence is slipping, those moments matter more than ever. AI can analyze, predict, and optimize. But AI cannot believe in people. Only leaders can. Only you can."
Parts 1 and 2 are now available in the newsletter section at https://3SixtyManagementServices.com. Parts 3 and 4 will be released over the next four weeks.
Romanella continues to speak, coach, and write on leadership, ethics, and purpose-driven decision-making, helping organizations build high-character, high-performance cultures. He is a former official member of Forbes Business Council, and a full list of his Forbes articles is available at https://www.3sixtymanagementservices.com/forbes-business-council/.
He also hosts The Leadership Library Podcast, now in its 9th season. New shows are posted every Tuesday through the end of 2025 at https://tightenthelugnuts.com/. The podcast is also available at https://www.buzzsprout.com/1484407 and Apple Podcasts.
Romanella's book, 'Tighten The Lug Nuts: The Principles Of Balanced Leadership,' recently achieved number 1 bestseller status in both Business Management and Business Leadership. Drawing on his forty-plus years of experience at UPS and his CEO and Director roles, the book explores how true leaders can lead organizations and people to new levels of success.
This series matters because, as Romanella emphasizes, in an era of rapid technological change and rising uncertainty, the human element of leadership—believing in people—remains irreplaceable. The implications for organizations are significant: fostering a culture of belief can unlock hidden potential, drive engagement, and build resilient teams. For leaders at any level, from business managers to educators, the series offers actionable insights to lift others and achieve breakthrough results.
