Dr. Charles F. Betters, a pastor with nearly five decades of ministry, has released a new book that invites readers into his deeply personal journey of grief and faith after the tragic loss of his sixteen-year-old son, Mark. The book, built upon sermons he preached in the weeks immediately following Mark's death, offers an honest, biblical exploration of grief, suffering, faith, and hope.
In an interview, Dr. Betters recounted the moment his world changed: a phone call telling him and his wife, Sharon, that their son had been in an accident. The loss shattered their lives and forced Dr. Betters to wrestle with questions every grieving parent asks: Could he still trust the God he had preached about for decades? Could God's love and sovereignty coexist in the face of such tragedy?

Dr. Betters' pastoral career spans forty-eight years, during which he served churches in Philadelphia and Delaware, founded Red Lion Christian Academy, and pastored Glasgow Reformed Presbyterian Church for over thirty years. He also established Anchored Hope Biblical Counseling, now known as Anchored Virtual. His previous books include Teaching Them Young and Harlots & Heroines, and he coauthored Treasures of Faith.
Inspired by the writings of Charles Spurgeon, Dr. Betters describes his writing journey in three words: loss, hope, purpose. His greatest challenge is finding time, and when writer's block strikes, his solution is perseverance.
Today, Dr. Betters lives in Florida, where he continues to lead MARKINC Ministries and enjoys time with Sharon, their four children, fourteen grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
