Alan Morell Hits 277th Book and Film Milestone, Signaling Robust Market for Author IP

Creative Management Partners (CMP) agent Alan Morell has reached a milestone of 277 book and feature film sales, the Beverly Hills-based firm announced. The achievement reflects a broad portfolio of CMP authors' works sold to publishers, with many receiving multilingual international editions and series deals, and books developed for TV and film optioned to video streamers, networks, studios, and audiobook producers.

The milestone matters for an industry that increasingly relies on proven intellectual property to fill pipelines across streaming, broadcast, and print. Morell's roster of placements spans a wide range of publishers, including Macmillan, HarperCollins, William Morrow, Penguin Random House, Random House, Rodale, Blackstone, iBooks, Hay House Publishers, Crown, Harmony, Brick Tower Press, J. Boylston & Company, St. Martins Press, Skyhorse, Simon & Schuster, Grand Central, and BenBella Books. Those titles are positioned for option rights for TV docu-series, feature films, television network and cable, digital, development adaptation of original content, unscripted, scripted, documentary, docudrama, and legitimate theatre, with outlets such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, DisneyABC, Hulu, PBS/BBC, Focus Features, and Broadway cited as potential destinations.

Among the notable deals is "Lies I Taught In Medical School" by Dr. Robert Lufkin, with a foreword by Jason Fung, MD, sold to BenBella Books, distributed by Random House, and issued in multilingual editions. Former Supreme Allied NATO Commander Four Star General Wesley K. Clark's "Advocacy for Peace" went to iBooks, while "Before the Knife," a regenerative approach to chronic pain, arthritis, and injury by Dr. Adam Brockman, host of Health Talk America, was placed with Blackstone Publishing. The health and wellness category features prominently, with titles such as "The Aztec Diet" by Dr. Bob Arnot to HarperCollins, "The Penis Book" by Dr. Aaron Spitz to Rodale Penguin Random House, and "Is This Normal" by Dr. John Whyte, chief medical officer of the AMA, to Rodale Penguin Random House.

Political and international titles also form a significant part of the milestone. The Heads of State book series by Dr. Frederic Teboul and Thierry Pastor was sold to iBooks, covering figures including President Donald J. Trump, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Argentina's president, President Xi Jinping of China, President Vladimir Putin of Russia, King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India. The deal was previously detailed in a Heads of State series announcement.

The milestone also highlights CMP's expansion into screen adaptations. Washington Square Entertainment and NTD Canada are developing a conspiracy thriller drama series based on John Moody's bestselling Hui Trilogy, as covered in a report on the WSE and NTD Canada deal. Other film and television projects include "Arthur C. Clarke's Venus Prime" sci-fi book series by Emmy Award screenwriters Dwayne J. Hill and David Cormican to Claxon Interactive, and "Bad Americans," a feature film by Jacques Hyzagi to Benaroya Pictures.

For authors and publishers, the milestone signals that agents with deep relationships across publishing and Hollywood can move manuscripts into multiple revenue streams. CMP has also promoted cost-cutting measures for authors, including a program to cut authors' costs by 70 percent on book manuscript and screenwriting proposals. The firm's broader activities include commercial rights and talent bookings, such as the Health Talk America signing with CMP and the show's rebranding as Health Talk America. Additional author signings include Dr. Lee Newcomer, author of Unmasked, whose publisher offer is under negotiation.

Morell has over 40 years of global experience managing more than 3,700 campaigns, including over 300 campaigns for doctors and advisory work for C-suite executives in the health and wellness sector, managing 277 doctors, according to the announcement. His clients have won awards including the Grammy, Tony, Oscar, Emmy, ESPY, Victor, Telly, Clio, and Gemini, as well as New York Times bestseller status. The original release is available through NewMediaWire.
